About the Ramsar Convention

The Ramsar Convention is an international treaty for the conservation and sustainable use of wetlands. It is named after the city of Ramsar in Iran, where the convention was signed on February 2, 1971. While its official name is the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance Especially as Waterfowl Habitat, it is usually called the Ramsar Convention, named after the city where the convention was signed.
The tideland of Tokyo Metropolitan Kasai Marine Park was designated as a Ramsar site on Thursday, October 18, 2018 (Swiss local time). The Ramsar Convention Secretariat is based in Switzerland.

CONSERVATION

Plan for the conservation and practical use of the Kasai seashore

Kasai Marine Park was designated as a Ramsar site in 2018. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government sought the opinions of community members and experts, inviting citizens of Tokyo to publicly comment, to draw up a plan for the conservation and practical use of the Kasai seashore. Details of the plan have been prepared to explain the direction for the conservation and practical use of the tideland, including the upkeep of the Park in the future and research activities. They are as follows:  Kasai Marine Park will keep to this plan and implement initiatives to ensure the conservation and practical use of the area, while also working with the local ward and community members.
